Glossary of Terms
| Fields |
| BTG borrows the database term "fields" for the componants that make up a sheet. There are many types of fields, each with a different purpose. Please see the Fields section for more details. |
| GM (GameMaster) |
| The GM or GameMaster is the ultimate authority in the game. The GM is a combination of referee and storyteller. He or she is responsible for making the game flow, enforcing the game rules, providing challenges for the players, and fleshing out the imaginary world of the game. Your game rules should provide more information about the GM, though it may call them by a different label.
The game host appoints the GM. |
| Host |
| The host is the person who is running the game server. This is usually the GM as well, but BTG allows the host to appoint someone else as GM, in case the GM has a poor connection, a slow computer, or is unable to host the game for other reasons.
It is very important to have a trustworthy host, since hosts are able to appoint anyone they want as GM. They could make themselves GM and view sensitive materials that are for the GM's eyes only. |
| Sheet |
| In BTG, sheets are used to share data with other players. Usually they are used for character profiles, but sheets can also be used to script stories, play sounds and music, roll dice presets, and more.
See the Fields section for more information about the technical ascpects of sheets. |
| Statpanels |
| The BTG interface is divided into two major parts. (Three, if you are using maps.) The section on the right is the chat box. On the left are the statpanels. The statpanels allow you to interface with the game by clicking or right clicking on items displayed within them.
When you start up BTG, the "Game" Statpanel is the only one visible. You may open additional statpanels by using the contents command.
See the Statpanels chapter for more details. |
