This page is far out of date. All the settings below are still part of the server settings, but they have expanded to just over 100 variables to allow the host to control gameplay and optimize performance. I'll update this page again once I finalize all these variables and have a stable UI to document. (I've been expanding the list so rapidly that I stopped making a dialog for it and just use the var explorer to make changes during tests.) The Server Settings are divided among 5 separate tabs:
Key This is the BYOND key name of the server administrator that this server is registered to. Title Graphic Optional image that will show up on the title screen. Server Name Name of the game server. Contact Email Optional email address for players to contact the server administrator. Hub Entry Hub entry for this server. A hub entry is required if you want to charge subscriptions on your server. Passport Passport of the hub entry to be queried for subscription status. Server Message Message that will show up on the hub page and display to players when they log in.
Maximum Players Maximum number of players allowed on this server. GMs and administrators will be allowed to exceed the limit. Estate Level Level that subscribers must achieve to be able to claim an estate. An estate level of zero (0) disables personal estates, but clan estates are still available. Max Monsters/Lvl Sets the maximum number of monsters per dungeon level. Spawn Time Number of level cycles between monster spawns on a particular level. Aggressive Spawn If checked, monsters spawn just out of view of the players so that they don't bunch up in unused sections of the dungeon. If unchecked, monsters may spawn anywhere outside player view on a level. Min Items/Lvl Sets the minimum number of items per level. If a level is loaded with less items than this threshold, the level will spawn fresh items. Max Offer Price The maximum amount of money that NPCs may offer for an item. Level Cache The minimum number of z levels available for the level cache. When the cache is full, Darke Dungeon will continue to create new z levels as needed. Dark Depth Levels above (dungeon play level+ level depth) this value are entirely lit. Action Rate Allows the server host to adjust how quickly actions occur. Ticks/cycle Modifying this setting speeds or slows all lifecycles. Set higher values to keep cpu usage down, at the expense of play speed. Purge Time If a dungeon is unused for a time longer than this threshold (in ticks), the dungeon will be purged automatically. Estates are not automatically purged. Lost & Found Amount of time (in ticks) items must wait in the pack rat's lost and found before it may be claimed by the finder. Save Custom Classes If checked, custom designed classed are saved when they are created, allowing others to reuse the same template. With this option active, if someone makes a "ninja" class that is slow, weak, and feebleminded, with a huge resevoir of mana; all ninjas thereafter will have that same template. A player wanting a more traditional ninja type would have to think up a new name. With this option turned off, two starting level "ninja" characters could have vastly differing stats. Exp to Level How much experience it takes to increase a level on this server.
Subscriber options These options allow the server administrator to customize the features available to subscribers and non-subscribers on the server. Max level The maximum level attainable for subscribers and/or non-subscribers. A value of 0 means unlimitted level advancement. Characters The maximum number of characters available per key to subscribers and non-subscribers. Note that players might use other keys to get more characters. Duration Limits how many days a non-subscriber may play a character, for a trial period. If the player subscribes, the character will become fully playable. As it currently stands, trial periods are on a per character basis. That means that a player may delete the character and start over with a fresh trial. Subscribers have an unlimited duration on their characters, as long as they are subscribed.
Chat Log If checked, all chat messages are logged on the server in the /save/admin/chatlogs folder. GM Log If checked, all GM messages are logged on the server in the /save/admin/GMlogs folder. Extra debug Information If checked, DD will generate more debug information.
Note: You must run Darke Dungeon with Dream Seeker to configuration the server settings and associate your key with the server. Until you do so, you will not be able to host the game. After the configuration is accepted, you may host the game with either Dream Seeker or Dream Daemon. Your game might not host properly if: A server keyed to your subscription is hosting the game from another IP address. If someone is fraudulently hosting with your subscription key, please contact Shadowdarke at shadowdarke@byond.com. Be sure to include the date, time, and the BYOND key that the subscription is registered to. Your server name is registered to another subscriber. Your server is unable to contact the BYOND hub or the Darke Dungeon hub. For other hosting problems, please view BYOND Networking.
